Sister Program Story:

“We
started Kailo at our hospital as a means of addressing our Strategic
Planning Objective that focused on retention,” says Kailo Coordinator,
Samantha Houston. “After a great deal of research we determined
that the Kailo program offered a way for employees to feel better
about themselves, become more engaged in their work, learn how
to practice good self-care, and feel valued by their employer.”

are interested in talking about psychosocial issues in
a group educational setting, but not yet ready or in need

also organizes organization-wide celebrations throughout
the year, including Kailo-ween, Kailo Cupid (Valentine’s

Testimonials:
Kailo is a great resource for SCMC. We use it as a venue for
staff appreciation events, a source of counseling when an employee
needs a little extra help to get through the week, a foundation
for the attitude that we want to see in our employees and a way
to HAVE FUN at work!
Ellen Smitherman, RN, Administration
Too often in our hectic daily schedules, we often fail to
give or receive a simple "Thank you" or "Well
done" for the things we do on the job. Kailo is the gratitude
we, as an employer, can extend that says, "Hey, take a break;
you've worked hard. You deserve it, and it's on us!" It's
the simple things like taking the time to remind our employees
to take care of themselves because they are valuable to us, which
can make all the difference. It's fun to hear the excited or
appreciative comments from staff after a presentation...you just
know it's had a positive impact on them.
Janel Lageschult, Kailo Staff person
I have been in Kailo since it started at Story County Medical
Center in fall of 2004. The main goal of Kailo is to help employees
with stress and other problems they may have. Our Kailo counselor
is available to listen and help with our problems whenever we
need her. We also have fun “Kailo Breaks.” We get
a free lunch and a speaker to talk to us about issues we have
brought up. We also have a chance to win prizes. I think that
Kailo Breaks make the work environment more enjoyable. It’s
nice to be able to have fun at work every once in awhile. I would
strongly recommend joining Kailo to anyone.
