Kailo Sister Programs

FAQ's

What is a Kailo Sister Program?

Over the years, dozens of organizations have borrowed elements of the Kailo Concept to enhance their current worksite health promotion efforts. But on occasion, we come across an organization who is interested in replicating our entire program from start to finish. Kailo Sister Programs were created to support these very special organizations in researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating their very own Kailo wellness initiatives.

What does the Kailo Sister Program include?

We spent nearly two years and tens of thousands of dollars in research and development prior to kicking off Kailo at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in 1998. The Sister Program is perhaps best described as a “starter kit” which allows an organization to spend less energy on this time-consuming and expensive process and focus more on successfully launching and delivering a world-class employee wellness effort.

Although each Kailo Sister Program package is tailored to some degree, basically the “starter kit” includes the following:

  • A comprehensive 2-day onsite training in Kailo Concept philosophy with Jon Robison, PhD, developer of Holistic Approach to Health Promotion and Kelly Putnam, MA, Kailo creator.
  • Comprehensive 1-2 day training at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in practical aspects of program delivery with Kailo staff.
  • License to use the “Kailo” (overall program) and “Kailo for One” (counseling service) name, logo, and tagline.
  • Ready-to-use marketing brochures & fliers, customized with your organization’s name.
  • Artwork templates for additional marketing materials.
  • Recommended national speaker list.
  • ACCESS computer database template for data collection.
  • Kailo Library resource list.
  • ACCESS computer database template for library management.
  • Sample job descriptions, policies and procedures.
  • “Beyond Bootstraps” depression kit.
  • “Healthy Sleep” kit.
  • On-going support from Mercy Kailo staff.

What does a Kailo Sister Program cost?

The price of the Sister Program package is largely dependent upon (1) the size of the organization and (2) the level of support you desire from the Mercy Kailo team.

Can the Kailo Sister Program be customized to meet the unique needs of my organization?

Absolutely. In fact, we insist upon it. No two organizations are exactly alike, therefore, no two Kailo programs should be alike either. We encourage our Sister Programs to adopt and adapt. Adopt our common philosophy and general practice principles and then adapt the concept to fit your worksite.

Are Kailo Sister Programs only for health care organizations?

Healthcare is definitely what we know best. And so far, our two Sister Programs have been healthcare organizations as well. But we are always looking for pioneering spirits in education, manufacturing, retail, banking, etc. to partner with us and figure out what Kailo looks like in these different work environments.

Can just any organization be a Kailo Sister Program?

In a word, no. The Sister Program is much more than a "plug-and-play" product that can be purchased and delivered in box. Kailo Sister organizations enter into a long-term relationship with Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa as partners in delivering quality wellness programs and services to their employees. As a result, we look for the following criteria in a potential Sister:

  1. The organization has identified at least one Kailo "champion" at the senior executive level.
  2. The organizaiton has demonstrated a willingness to commit adequate resources to the Program for a minimum of 2 years.
  3. The organization has committed to fully understanding and adotping the Program's foundational philosophy and realted tenets with regard to their employee wellness initiative.
  4. The organization has expressed an authentic desire to improve the health and wellnes of employees.
